Beech-Failing Alley Block Party - June 24 2017

A Boise Neighborhood Alley Party! featuring DJ Anjali and the Incredible Kid in the Crush House backyard. This event was intended to build community support for an alleyway development project. The project was never successful and the neighbor who was spearheading the project moved to Arizona.

For over a year, some of your neighbors have been working to preempt the likelihood of Beech-Failing alleyway becoming an asphalt or concrete service road by aiming development that impels cars to share the road with features for community benefit and environmental stewardship and advocating for kindred citywide programming.

We’re throwing a block party June 24th to meet neighbors and others that visit our neighborhood, and to celebrate better action for more livable neighborhoods through better education, creative partnerships and community-based options for underutilized infrastructure like alleys.

Cheer the Good in the Hood Parade that morning then join the BFAP family-friendly alley party for music, art installation, lawn games and picnicking in the alleyway. Bring a picnic lunch, or patronize the Whole Bowl truck making a special appearance in the alley. The City Repair Tea Crab, and DJ Anjali and the Incredible Kid will be there, too!

Kindergarten students from KairosPDX Learning Academy collaborated with Amanda Ichihashi Jagerman to create an art installation with fabrication help from ADX. First and second grade students planted in planters built by Oregon Tradeswomen from Sustainable Northwest Wood restoration juniper, with plants from Livingscape Nursery. Second and third grade made a zine envisioning dreamy neighborhoods, published by Scout Books. All KairosPDX students are contributing to a time capsule on the Beech-Failing block, topped with a public chess table. Scott Sutton is contributing land-art to address erosion impacts with material help from Oregon Decorative Rock.

Come check it out!

I’ve included photos from the Good in the Hood parade as well since it was informally connected to the block party.
